Been an Android user, you must have noticed by now that they are some apps that came with the device; these apps are called stock apps.
For those that are not aware, these pre-installed apps might be useless to some but useful to others, and since some add nothing to your usage, it slows down your device performance and also takes a bit of the memory.
Formally, it was not possible to remove these pre-installed apps except your device is rooted (have unrestricted permission).
In this article, we will discuss the simple and most convenient ways in which you can remove stock apps from your device by going through the stress of rooting.
How to Remove Bloatware on Android without Rooting
Using the Android Settings
- Open your Settings and tap on Select Applications.
- Next, tap on the Application Manager, which will display all the applications on your device. You will notice some apps do not have the ‘uninstall’ option. It means you have to force them to stop by holding the Force Stop button then tap on Disable.
- With that, you have removed the selected stock app that came with your device and eating away your device memory. You can follow the same process for other stock apps. And if you noticed that the app didn’t uninstall, try the operation again, or you can try another method in this article.
Using Debloater
This step has been tested on Windows PC, so you should follow the instructions carefully. This method of removing stock apps requires you to use the developer’s option on your device.
The developer’s tool can be enabled by going to the Settings on your device, then tap on About Phone, and next tap on the Build Number.
Then you have to tap on it about 7-10 times, thereby revealing the developer’s tools.
- Now, you can go ahead to view the options in the Developer’s tools. When you are in, scroll down and look for USB Debugging and tap to enable it.
- After enabling Debugging, search for Debloater tool in your Windows PC, download and install it on your PC. It’s a tool that helps to remove stock and unwanted system application apps from your android device.
- Next, connect your Android device to the PC using a USB cable and wait for a while for the system to recognize it. Once it’s done, the Debloater app will pop up a warning message.
- Now, go ahead to click on Read Phone Packages, found at the top left of the screen. That will prompt the app to read the entire applications on your android device.
- Next, select the system apps you wish to remove and select the Apply button to initiate deletion. This process can be reversed by merely unselecting the apps.
Using ADB (Android Debug Bridge)
- Since this method requires a third-party app, we will be working with an app called App Selector.
- Download and install the App Selector on your Android device
- Next, download and install Android Debug Bridge (ADB) on your PC. Click here to know more.
- While on your device, using App Selector, tap on the App List and choose the app you wish to uninstall from your Phone and remember to put the app path in mind because you will need it.
- Connect your Android device to your PC and tap ‘Transfer files’ way. When that is done, a command prompt will appear, enter the following commands below.
adb devices- After entering the commands, enter ‘adb shells’ to enter the shell mode.
- To uninstall the app, enter the following commands below in the command prompt.
pm uninstall -k --user 0Note: Bear in mind to replace the package name with the application path you have selected earlier.
Once that is done, a success message will be displayed on the command prompt window.
With the help of the three methods stated above, you should be able to free up memory on your device and remove those annoying system applications from your device.
