There are a lot of reasons why “Ok Google” might not be working your device. That is why we are going to take a closer look at different solutions for the same problem. You can try them all on your device to see which one solves your Assistant not working problem:

Retrain Voice Model

One of the popular culprits behind the not working of the ‘Ok ‘Google command is that most users didn’t take time to set up the voice command correctly. If you have not trained your Google voice command successfully, Google Assistant might fail to recognize your voice.

That is why you should take some time to retrain your voice model.

Now, tap on “Storage” and clear out the cache memory by tapping on the “CLEAR CACHE” button. You should note that the Settings app on your phone might look different from the one in this article because you might not be using a stock Android device.

But do not worry, the steps are still the same, and it will work on any Android device.

Reinstall the Google App

If clearing of the cache didn’t work for you, then you might have to uninstall the application and then reinstall it on your device.

The process of uninstalling is pretty simple, and I hope you know how to get it done on your specific Android device. If not, follow these simple steps below as they are universal and it will work on any Android device.

First, you launch the Play Store and then search for Google. Tap on the result that is marked in the picture above and then tap on the ‘uninstall’ button.

Now, restart your device and then repeat the same process. The only difference this time is that you will tap on the ‘Install’ button instead to install the app on to your device.

Check the Language Settings

Sometimes, the “Ok Google” command does not work because you may have selected wrong language settings. To make sure that is not the case with you, open the Google app and then navigate to More >> Settings >> Voice >> Languages, and make sure that the right language for your region is selected.

Do a Mic Check

Since “Ok Google” depends on your device’s microphone, it is always good to see if it’s in good working condition or not. Sometimes, a faulty mic is the main reason behind the Ok Google command not working on your device.

So carry out a mic check, open any recording app on your device and then record your voice. If it doesn’t sound as it should, then the problem is with your mic, and you should have it repaired.
