Oppo has released its first Realme phone for the year 2019 as it releases a budget phone, the Realme 3. The Realme is a budget sub-brand in India made by Oppo to take on the Xiaomi Redmi series in the Asian country.
This is the third Realme phone is less than a year as the fourth most popular device in India seeks to gain more users.
Realme 3
Realme 3 packs some exciting features under its belt when compared with the previous Realme 1 and 2 and a Realme 3 Pro is scheduled to be released in April.
Design and Display
The first noticeable feature on the Realme 3 is the waterdrop notch. Quite strange as Oppo is one of the pioneers of hole-punch displays. The device has Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Since it uses waterdrop notch, there is no top bezel, but the bottom chin is not quite slim.
A dual camera setup adorns the rear side of the phone alongside a flashlight and a fingerprint sensor. Realme adopts different catchy colour options like the Dynamic black and Radiant Blue.
The Realme 3 comes with a 6.22-inch HD+ IPS LCD with resolution at 720 x 1520 pixels giving it the trendy 19:9 screen aspect ratio.
The phone is made of durable plastic with a glossy finish.
Camera Setup
Oppo adopts a vertically aligned dual camera + Flash setup. The 13MP camera is placed at the top while the 2MP depth sensor is placed at the bottom. Realme has included additional software features like Nightscape and Chroma Boost.
The waterdrop notch at the front is home to a 13MP selfie camera that is also used for facial unlocking. Both front and back camera can record 1080p videos at 30fps
Hardware Components
The Realme 3 comes in two different variants and versions. There is an Indian based version that uses the Helio P70 on either 3 GB of RAM space with 32 GB storage or 4GB of RAM Space with 64GB storage space.
The global version has the lower Helio P60 chip but retains the other specifications. Overall, the SoC is MediaTek Helio P60/P70 with AI, octa-core CPU (4xA73 @2.1GHz /4xA73 @2.1GHz + 4xA53 @2.0GHz), and supported by Mali-G72 MP3 GPU.
The difference between both chips will not be felt much in real life usage though.
Software and Battery
The Realme 3 runs on Oppo ColorOS 6.0 based on Android 9 Pie. The Color OS finally has an app drawer. Realme teases that the OS has AI capabilities hence should learn user habits in two weeks.
The Realme 3 comes with a 4250mAh battery and has been touted to last over 13 hours on video playback due to smart optimisation by the SoC
